Crawfish Season is here!

Published by Todd Melerine CPA, CFP®

With the arrival of spring, many of you will soon be planning backyard barbecues and family gatherings.  Down here in Southeast Louisiana, we do things a little differently.  We have crawfish boils!

You may be wondering what a crawfish boil has to do with an investment blog?

Well, just like a good crawfish boil needs many ingredients to turn out great, your portfolio also needs diversified ingredients.  Too much cayenne pepper for spice, just like too many aggressive stocks in your portfolio, can cause indigestion.  Too little spices, however, can turn out just as bad.

We design portfolios tailored to our client’s unique tastes and needs using tools to model just how much spice to add.  Do you know how much risk is in your portfolio?  Has it been stress tested to see how it would hold up if markets go down?

If your crawfish boil recipe doesn’t turn out quite like you planned, you can always try again.  But what will happen to your retirement if your investment portfolio doesn’t work out?

Over the years, I have seen just about everything thrown into a crawfish boil and some work better than others.  A traditional crawfish boil will always include lemons, potatoes, corn, onions, garlic, and more.

What do you like in your crawfish boil? I prefer to use oranges instead of lemons.

Just like a crawfish boil needs a variety of ingredients to be good, so does your portfolio.
